These releases take advantage of the console's unique features, such as Off TV Play with the Wii U GamePad and posting to Miiverse. Some of these games may already be available on the Wii Virtual Console, which can also be played through Wii U's Wii Mode, but these legacy versions lack some features of the Wii U Virtual Console. While Wii Virtual Console titles cannot be played using the Wii U GamePad's controls, a September 2013 system update enabled the use of the GamePad's screen as a display. While some Wii games are also available for download from the Wii U eShop, these are not designated as Virtual Console releases and lack Virtual Console features.

This is a list of all Virtual Console releases for the Wii U. The Wii U Virtual Console service launched properly on April 23, 2013, and currently supports seven systems. The service began with NES and SNES games at launch, then expanded into Game Boy Advance titles, then with Nintendo 64 and Nintendo DS titles. Game systems from other companies are also supported; in Japan titles for the MSX and TurboGrafx-16 (PC Engine) have been released, while in North America only titles for the TurboGrafx-16 have been released. Note that while Nintendo have released Wii retail games for download on the Nintendo eShop, these are not considered to be Virtual Console titles.
I'm glad DuckTales Remastered is mentioned in the comments (and is now added to the list); it's a must. I didn't pick up many Wii U eShop games outside of VC titles, but out of this list I wholeheartedly recommend Tengami and Year Walk.

Yeah they need to do a new NES Remix for Switch (and a SNES Remix while they are at it). I had virtually all of the games in it on VC but it was a lot of fun playing the bite-size chunks and challenges of the games.
I have most of these games....It's been so long that I've forgotten about them until seeing this list. I just ordered a really big sd card and am going to head up to my attic, break out the wii u, and get everything downloaded. Feels like the "real" death of the wii u, and 3ds. I'm going to make sure that I get all of the content that I truly want to play before they shut down.
Well I have twelve of the games in the list. surpised the Two Trine Games where not in the List. I know there still in the EU eshop.And if you buy one I think they offer a discount for the other one. For me though I want to get Captain U as its one of the last games, though there is the new game Nintendo life previewed last Month to come, bit unfair for that developer, as now his game will up for like less than a year.
@dustinprewitt The delisted TG-16 games are pretty much all Irem games (Ninja Spirit, Image Fight 1&2, R-Type, etc.). They were taken off in 2020, I believe, only 2 years after they were offered. I'm not sure if something happened to the company and had to turn over the IPs or if they were just dissatisfied with the sales.
@ElRoberico I went through the list of Wii U and 3DS exclusives and prioritized them. I did this when I first heard of the closure in March. I made a monthly list of about the same sum of money worth of games by a prioritized order of interest.I've gotten down to tier 4 of my list, and it's still dozens of titles. Got some out of the set order during discounts or physical copy availability. In ways I'm ahead of schedule already.
Two games on here I'd strongly second is Nano Assault and Star Fox Guard. Nano Assault is a great shooter and graphically, it looks AMAZING! Star Fox Guard didn't make a good first impression, but about a year after I bought it, I got sucked in and now I absolutely love it. It also makes for an interesting novelty because of how it was designed around the gamepad. It's one of the few Wii U games that I don't see really being possible on Switch or any other traditional console.
@RupeeClock I mean not for anyone with a half a brain. They make it so you have 0 reason not to mod your console at that point and if you can't actually buy the games non-second hand any longer...makes it simple to never fear of missing out since there's lots of archives and other places with the games available.
3D Classics is a line of remakes exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS eShop. The games retain the look and feel of the originals, while adding updated accessibility features and stereoscopic 3D to the experience. Golden Sun is a beloved Nintendo franchise that's been dormant since 2010. The series follows a group of magic-sensitive characters tasked with preventing the release of a mysterious power called "Alchemy". The games star Isaac, who you may recognize from passionate Golden Sun fans requesting his admission to the Super Smash Bros. series. The series' first two games are on the Wii U virtual console, and have received widespread praise.
NES Remix is available physically and digitally on both Wii U and 3DS. It's not too expensive to get a physical copy, but it's included in this list because it's simply one of the best games on the systems. In NES Remix, Nintendo experimented with their most classic titles, giving a fresh spin to the original Mario, Metroid, Zelda, and more. The challenge-based gameplay gave even the most experienced Nintendo fans new things to accomplish in some of the company's oldest games.
The SMT series is full of high-quality, extremely difficult JRPGs. They're also difficult to come by, with each entry costing upwards of $70 online. If you played Shin Megami Tensei V on Switch and want to experience more of the franchise, the Nintendo 3DS eShop is the best place to do it. And, while the mainline Persona games haven't reached Nintendo consoles, Persona Q2 is a rare 3DS game that features Persona 5's Joker.

Iwata revealed how the Wii U launch lineup will be bolstered by a long list of top game franchises headed for the new console. These are games that longtime players and newcomers alike will love to play, and everyone will be experiencing them in new ways, thanks to the integrated second-screen experiences enabled by the Wii U GamePad controller. Iwata also detailed a number of enhancements designed to make the Wii U game experience more social, even if people are not playing in the same room.
Two Zelda Games: Eiji Aonuma, the producer of The Legend of Zelda series, revealed two entries in the series for Wii U. Super Mario is on His Way: The Nintendo EAD Tokyo Software Development team that created the Super Mario Galaxy games for Wii and Super Mario 3D Land for Nintendo 3DS is working on a new 3D Mario action game for Wii U. The game is scheduled to be playable at this year's E3. Buckle Up!: Nintendo is also working on a new installment of the hit Mario Kart franchise. This game is also planned to be playable at E3. Yarn Yoshi: The team that created Kirby's Epic Yarn is hard at work on the first console game to feature Yoshi as the main character since 1998's Yoshi's Story for Nintendo 64. Takashi Tezuka, director of Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story, is supervising the development of the new game, which is set in a fanciful world of yarn and textiles. Wii Fit U Communities: New features coming to Wii Fit U include letting players create user communities on Miiverse from within the game. Community members can discuss exercises, BMI or weight changes and other health topics with other players as a way to encourage one another to reach their fitness goals. Similar functionality for other games is also planned. Pikmin 3 Photos: The upcoming Pikmin 3 game includes a feature that lets players use the Wii U GamePad as a camera to share the same perspective as Pikmin and take close-up pictures of landscapes and creatures in the game and share them in Miiverse. The Party Continues: A new installment in the Wii Party franchise is planned to launch this summer. The game features various play styles, including one that lets both players compete head-to-head using just the GamePad. RPG Mashup: Nintendo has begun many collaborations with outside development partners to bring the best franchises and experiences to Wii U. In one such partnership, Nintendo and Atlus are working on a collaboration that features the Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei franchises.
